Garden Party Star Quilt with Fort Worth Fabric Studio

This week is the lovely Garden Party Friday Bundle Batch with Fort Worth Fabric Studio! I just love all those pink fabrics together! This Star Quilt Tutorial is my favorite as it uses the entire 8 fat quarters plus one yard of background fabric to make the quilt top and scrappy binding for a lap size quilt!!!! Keep reading for the Star Quilt Tutorial.

*Hint for cutting for fat quarters. Cut (1) 12" x 21" rectangle. Then subcut the (1) 12" square. This will leave you with (1) 9" x 12" rectangle- subcut into (2) 4.5" x 11.5"rectangles.

Star Center - 4 Fat Quarters (cut from each fat quarter):
(1) 11.5" square
(2) 4.5" x 11.5" Rectangles
(2) 2.5 x 18" Binding

Background - Riley Blake Swiss Dots in Pink
(4) 12" Squares- cut on diagonal to make 2 triangles from each square (total of 8)
(4) 11.5" Squares

Corner 4-patches
(16) 2.5" squares (I cut these from my binding strips above)

Sewing
1. Sew (1) Star Point Triangle to (1) Background triangle to create a 11.5" half-square triangle. Make 8 total.

2. Sew (4) four-patch blocks to create corner blocks

3. Layout squares as shown below and sew together.

4. Quilt. I chose to stipple-meander my quilt. I "might" be addicted to stippling....I just can't stop! :)

5.  Bind. I just love a scrappy binding! Plus the backing matches perfectly!!!

A bit more about the backing fabric: Flutter & Float Flower Crown Pink by Blend Fabrics

This fabric is a perfect match for your quilt. I even tried something new...matching up the pattern for the backing seam! This fabric is perfect for seam matching as the pattern repeat is small so not much fabric waste!!! I will definitely do this again!

The color is a off in this picture, but the seam almost hidden :)

I just love this Garden Party Star Quilt!!! I'm so excited to give this quilt to a very special teacher!!!

Thank you again to Fort Worth Fabric Studio for having me sew this quilt with this fabulous Garden Party Fat Quarter Bundle!!! Be sure to grab your bundle here before it sells out. Tag your projects on social media with #sewingwithfwfabricstudio and @fwfabricstudio and me @mellierc

Lemon Drop Table Runner with Fort Worth Fabric Studio

I just LOVE this week's Friday Bundle Batch: Lemon Drop at Fort Worth Fabric Studio! When this lovely spring bundle arrived, I decided a hexagon table runner would be perfect! I used my Hex N More Ruler to create the hexagons with NO y-seams for this fun project!

This week's bundle has some of my favorite colors together: yellow and gray! Fabrics included are:
  1. Mojito Gray Flowers - Windham
  2. Marble Mate Dots Lemon - Moda
  3. Mojito Gray Rain - Windham
  4. Mojito Mango Leave - Windham
  5. Garden Splendor Sunshine Polka Dots - Robert Kaufman
  6. Finger Painted Flowers Gray Dots - Windham
  7. Marble Swirls Lemon - Moda
  8. Soleil White Small Floral - Windham

Ready to make your own Lemon Drop Table Runner 18.5" x 45" (hexagons finish at 6")

Supplies
1. Friday Bundle Batch: Lemon Drop Quarter Bundle- You will use the entire bundle for the table runner top, backing, and binding.
3. True Grips - I LOVE these grips on my Hex N More ruler! They make it so much easier to cut out the hexagon shapes....no slipping and no cut fingers! I consider them a must have.
4. Alphabitties - These will help in keeping your fabrics in order when sewing the half hexagons together.

Cutting
1. Cut (2) 3.5"x 21" strips from 7 fat quarters and (4) 3.5" x 21" strips from 1 fat quarter. We will be making the 6.5" half hexagon (6" finished hexagon)
2. Cut a total of 27 half hexagon pairs. (3 hexagon pairs per two strips)
3. Cut (8) 2.5" x 21" strips for scrappy binding
-Remaining fabric will be pieced together to make the backing.
-The Hex N More ruler comes with cutting directions or here is a video by Jaybird Quilts.

Piecing the table runner
1. Layout the hexagons in desired configuration. Example below.

2. Use Alphabitties to number rows. This will make it so much easier to sew the rows together- especially if you want to chain piece. Just keep the row number clipped to the far left half hexagon.

3. The half hexagons are very easy to sew together. Just use a quarter inch seam and line up the edges.

4. Piece backing with remaining pieces of fat quarters.

Quilting
I quilted my table runner with diagonal lines along the seams. I used Aurifil Natural White 2021 thread.

I had so much fun sewing this Lemon Drop Table Runner. I'm sure I will be making more projects with the Hex N More Ruler!

Peppermint Bark Quilt with Dixie Fabric and Fat Quarter Shop

I'm so excited to share my Peppermint Bark Quilt using Cluck Cluck Sew's Dixie Fabrics from Fat Quarter Shop! I thought it would be fun to use my Dixie fabrics while I anxiously await her new Hello Jane collection (it has purple!!!). I love the Peppermint Bark Pattern from It's So Emma at Fat Quarter Shop! The blocks  are fun to sew and show off the fabrics so well!

I always enjoying sewing It's So Emma patterns as they are clearly written plus the included pressing instructions will give perfect points! Each block finishes at 14"- which is such a nice size block for quilts, table runners, or pillows!

For my lap size quilt, I made 9 blocks and enlarged the borders and sashing to 5.5" cut strips.  This made a 62" square size quilt! I stippled the quilt on my home sewing machine...I just love to stipple!
